Biography - Brandon Bandy (b. St. Louis, MO) is an artist in Long Beach, California. Brandon’s practice confronts ideas of the virtual, visual conventions, and artistic production amidst the domination of online platforms and erosion of institutions. Often centering site and photographic indexicality, Brandon’s works are synthesized from contemporary folklore and situationally derived context. Brandon’s work is primarily produced in collaboration with Rachel Jackson. Additionally they co-operate Special Effects, a publishing studio producing art books and editions, alongside organizing exhibitions at Timeshare in Los Angeles. Brandon received a MFA from University Of California, Riverside and is currently a lecturer at California State University, Bakersfield and Fullerton.

Lot: 31
Auction Bid Log on Self-Adhesive Vinyl, Engraved Acrylic Plaque
Produced for the occasion of the Weatherproof Anniversarial, 2024
Weatherproof, Chicago, IL
Curated by Milo Christie and Sam Dybeck

Lot Details: Taking the form of auction bid log, Bandy’s “Lot: 31 (A Work in Progress)” requires the sale of the work to render it complete. If “Lot: 31 (A Work in Progress)” does not sell, the work of art does not exist. When sold, the work will be updated with the bids which comprised its sale, making the work a record of its own existence as a financial instrument. The collector will receive an adhesive vinyl print identical to this one which will be updated with the financial history of the work and an engraved acrylic plaque. Rather than receiving a traditional art object, the buyer will receive a permanent record of their generous contribution to the gallery and artist. Any bidder enters an agreement with the artist and gallery that their name and bid amount(s) will be used in the completion of the work. If the collector moves or the work is damaged, they may contact the artist’s studio for a reissue of the vinyl.
